Operating Theatres
Operating theatre is a specialized unit within the hospital where surgical operations are performed in an aseptic environment. Our unit comprises of four (4) operating rooms/theatres furnished with key equipment such as electric operated theatre beds, anaesthetic machines, overhead operating lights and other lifesaving and essential equipment necessary for surgery.
We comply with international safety standards and one (1) of our theatre room is fitted with laminar flow system. Our unit operates on a 24-hour basis for both routine/elective and emergency cases.
Our skilled Surgeons, Anaesthetists and Nursing staff offer high level of expertise and surgical competence.
The theatre is providing surgical procedures to the following disciplines:
• Orthopedics
• Obstetrics and Gynecology
• General Surgery
• Ear, Nose & Throat
• Urology
The theatre is also equipped with central sterilizing services department (CSSD) to ensure clean and safe instruments and other items necessary for surgical operations.
Wellness
Purpose of this clinic:
• To test HIV and initiate clients on treatment
• To reduce the spread and emergence of resistant strains, defaulter rate and improve the cure rate of all clients receiving care on this unit.
ACTIVITIES RENDERD
1. HIV
• Test all patients entering the facility to comply to universal test and treat strategy.
• Do viral loads to all patients initiated on HIV medication to check their status of viral load suppression rate as it is our measure to reduce multiplication of the strain in their bodies.
• Conduct adherence counselling pertaining to side-effects of the medication, life style modification. How often to take medication, to know the type of medication they are on as it is important to tell another health care workers on visit for other comorbidities, so that they can make a correct decisions on other medications that is not going to interact with HIV medication and also to alert them about the implications of not taking their medications as ordered.
2. TUBERCULOSIS
• Conduct screening signs of Tuberculosis to all patients entering the unit, as this is an opportunistic disease when immune system is down in the body also for treatment decision purposes.
• Initiating all clients who are HIV posititive on T.B. preventative therapy/treatment, only who are legible for this preventative treatment.
3. DIABETES MELLITUS
Patients who have diabetes and Hypertension not including HIV are also managed in this clinic, reason for combination is to do away with stigma of HIV, to say that clinic is only for HIV people.
