As Obstetricians we are tasked with care of pregnant women and their unborn babies so that common complications of pregnancy such as high blood pressure, bleeding during and after pregnancy do not harm the mother and her baby.
We advance the wishes of the CARMMA Strategy that “No woman should die while giving birth.”
Potchefstroom Hospital prides itself in being one of the hospitals with lowest maternal mortality rate in the North West Province.
Many mothers die from pregnancy all over the world especially in developing countries where services are poor or inaccessible due to limited resources.
On the Gynaecology side, we help women who struggle to fall pregnant to conceive. We screen and treat women for cancer of the womb.
Furthermore, we treat those with abnormal bleeding, precancerous lesions, sterilizations and other methods of family planning.
