Surgical Department - Ward 7
Ward 7 is in our beautiful Surgical Department and caters for female patients. It is a unit with 33 beds, of which we admit surgical, Gynaecology, ENT and postnatal patients. This makes our ward one the busiest wards in Potchefstroom Hospital. We work as a disciplinary team consisting of doctors from different teams (Surgical, Gynae & Obstetrics, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Department), nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, social workers and theatre. The surgical department is led by our dedicated specialists who go beyond boarders to help our patients.
Most of the patients we admit are treated for pain and being at the risk of developing secondary infections, our friendly and helpful staff are there to assist with the healing process. Despite all the challenges, our aim is to give comprehensive care and support to our patients during their stay with us. Our fundamental nursing care in Ward 7 is the “Batho Pele Principles” simply because we are not only obligated but we care. Health education is the tool we use ensure that our patients cope well at home after discharge.
